Additional Wood Folding Mancala in Sleeve Information

The goal of each player is to collect the glass beads in his or her mancala (the big cups at each end of the game board). Begin your game by filling each cup (except mancalas) with 4 beads. A player then picks up beads from a cup and redistributes them, one at a time, into other cups around the board. A few simple rules govern which cups a player can drop a bead into and when a player's turn is over. Collect the most beads in your mancala to win the game! Then, fold the glass beads inside the game board and slip the board into a convenient storage box. Beads won't get lost! Oak-finish, hinged game board unfolds to 5-1/4x17-3/4. Includes 48 colorful glass beads and instructions for basic game. For 2 players.

What Customers Say About Wood Folding Mancala in Sleeve:

Oh and the contrary to the picture there is no metal case :-( I purchased this item after reading the description, which stated "Includes 48 colorful glass beads" when I received the wood Mancala there where no "colorful" glass beads instead clear glass beads. I was very disappointed because the colorful beads are one of the reasons why I purchased this item.

she played this game with other friends, but when i started playing with her I loved it myself its a fun game to play it keeps you thinking This game was on my daughters christmas list.

After opening the package to find that there were no "gems" but rocks for game pieces inside I was a very disappointed. We did not buy the game from amazon, but felt the need to leave a review. You can still play the game as intended thou I guess. The box and instructions clearly show and state gems. My 8 year old loves playing this. We brought it for him as a Christmas present this past year.

We started playing in "teams" - matching an adult with a pre-reader, and older kids playing solo. Our family loves Apples to Apples, but our youngest was too young to read the cards. It's nice for times when younger kids might get fidgety waiting for something - doctors appointments, they're hungry and waiting for a meal, or times when they can't go outside to play. Our family really enjoys playing games together, but we've often found ourselves in the predicament of finding games easy enough for a 5 year old, but challenging, and enough fun for kids who are older.

I'd never played Mancala before, so I asked the teacher about it, and she said, "Oh. Even though it's a strategy game, it's a simple game which can be played quickly if you only have 10 or 15 minutes. One day I went to pick our son up from school and noticed one of the teachers playing Mancala with a child who appeared to be about 5 or 6 years old.

It's also easy enough that just about anyone can play - which can be really wonderful for families who have older and younger children. Mancala is a 2 player game - so for all the times our youngest felt a little slighted with more advanced games, we can make up for by giving him a little extra attention and "fun time" with mom or dad.Mancala does have small flat marble-like pieces called stones - if you have young children beware of the potential choking hazard. This game is SO much fun." I watched them play for awhile; it was apparent both teacher and student were having a good time, and neither seemed to be at any great advantage over the other.

Mancala is a strategy game for 2 players, but it's also a great game for kids who are learning about numbers or who are practicing their counting.

I feel this is misleading, and I believe Cardinal Industries should be charging a lesser price, since they are not providing the glass pebbles, but rather, pea gravel.I have asked the retailer I bought mine from to refund my money. So the outside of the box, and the description in the directions didn't match what was actually inside the box.I went to the Cardinal Industries website, and on the website, the picture on the version of Mancala being sold on there shows rocks, instead of the glass pebbles. So, apparently, they have changed their product, but it seems that on the production line, some of the ones still being created for, and distributed to, various retailers have the WRONG PICTURE on the outside. I didn't buy my Mancala game from Amazon, but I did buy one this past Saturday (May 16, 2009) from another retailer. I asked for the refund, because they couldn't exchange it.other boxes they opened up had the same pea gravel inside, even though the outside of the box showed the brightly-colored glass gemstones.Again, I did not buy mine on Amazon, but I'm posting this warning here so that other people can watch out for rocks in their Mancala game, instead of what they actually paid for.the glass "gemstones" pictured on the box, and described in the directions. HOWEVER, when I opened the game, instead of the glass "gemstones", there were ROCKS inside. The manufacturer is Cardinal Industries, same as the version Amazon is selling. The picture on my Mancala box looked just like the one on Amazon - brightly colored glass pieces, etc. The same kind of small, pea-gravel sized rocks I can pick up in my driveway. The directions that came in the box also talk about "gemstones".
